About Us

Habitat's Mission:
"Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope."

History
Junction City/Harrisburg/Monroe Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1994 by committed volunteers dedicated to eliminating substandard housing in their communities.  Junction City/Harrisburg/Monroe Habitat continued to be exclusively volunteer run for ten years.  We now have three employees:   Jon Silvermoon is our Executive Director and Cheré DiValerio is our part-time Office Assistant.  We also have a part-time YOUTH United Program Specialist, Liz Henderson.  Junction City/Harrisburg/Monroe Habitat for Humanity has built twelve houses, and we dedicated our first rehabilitated house in May 2011 for the Edblom Family in Harrisburg.  This was our thirteenth Habitat house.  We are currently working on our fourteenth build, also in Harrisburg, for the Robin Family (2 adults and 5 sons).  They came to Oregon from New Orleans, after Hurricane Katrina seriously changed their lives.  The Robins used their $1300 house-sale money, Red Cross gas money, and FEMA hotel vouchers to get to Harrisburg.  We hope to dedicate their new home this fall.

Habitat for Humanity International was founded by Millard and Linda Fuller in 1976.  The Fullers built an ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide and to making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people from all faiths and walks of life to work together in partnership, building houses with families in need.

How We Do it
Habitat Houses are built with volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials.  Junction City/Harrisburg/Monroe Habitat builds  simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families.  Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit, financed with affordable, no-interest loans.  The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments are recycled into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.

Family Selection
Habitat partner families are selected through an application process.  We recently held Community Information meetings in Harrisburg and Junction City during June (2011).  The application period for the 2012-2012 has closed.  The affiliate's family selection committee considers applicants' level of need, their willingness to become partners in the Habitat program and their ability to repay the no-interest loan.  Every affiliate follows a nondiscriminatory policy of family selection.  Neither race nor religion is a factor in choosing Habitat homeowner families.  For more information and/or to provide your contact information for a future selection period, follow this link: Apply for a Home

Habitat for Humanity International has built more than 300,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1,000,000 people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter.
